THE SHAPE OF THE FUTURE!

An blog entry that was unpublished since 2008: I sent this message out to comic book industry trade publications like "Wizard," "Comics Buyer's Guide," etc. I present it here for all of you to see. Agree? Disagree? Feel free to discuss the pro's and con's. Thanks! -- Matt THE SHAPE OF THE FUTURE For years, I have been discussing how the comic book industry seriously needs to look hard at changing the format of comic books with anyone who would listen. In order to get comics in the hands of more readers, and in more retail outlets, I feel some drastic measures must be taken to ensure the market continues to endure in an ever-changing marketplace. This past weekend, I got in a copy of "Wizard" #179, and noted its' change in format, and thought, "They seem to get it!" You see, the publication, up until now, has always been roughly the same dimensions as a Silver-Age comic book. The new format is more like a magazine-size, like "

A.I.: Raging Against The Machine

So, I'm a fan of the Dr. Demento radio show, that ran for years on terrestrial radio, and played novelty and comedy music and such. The good doctor is still with us and has taken his program online, where people can listen to weekly episodes at his website.  There is also an official Facebook page dedicated to that program. I typically enjoy posting there and checking out posts from other fans. Unfortunately, the moderator there has made a commandment about A.I. music and videos. The moderator has gave his rationale for the ban on the divisiveness on the subject of A.I., and in his post explaining his actions he made clear his own views on the matter. I am trying to decide if I want to continue being in a group ran by such a person. As pretty much anyone wh

Chicago Trip 2010: The City

Some of you may recall me posting in the past about my involvement with the production of a documentary entitled "TRUE BELIEVER: The Stan Lee Documentary." Well, it's been a long post-production process, and I hadn't heard much of anything from the producer, Nikki Frakes, but she contacted me again today and updated me on the film's status. First is the change of the film's title. It is now called "With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story." The film has been scored, and a final cut put together. The distribution rights is still being hammered out, but there will be a showing of the film this year at the San Diego Comicon. Here is a press release that Ms. Frakes told me I could pass along: Face Front True Believers!! "With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story" will premiere at Comic Con - San Diego on Saturday, July 24th 2010 at 8:30PM in room 6BCF!! "With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story" is a feature length documentary on Marv
